A whopping 96 percent of the cost-of-ownership of a motor is the cost of electricity. When implemented correctly, variable frequency drives (VFDs) reduce these costs and can provide other benefits as well.

Motor Decisions Mattersm, a campaign managed by CEE, recently published a two-page fact sheet on variable speed drives with guidelines for appropriate use. There’s a real need out there to identify the right applications for VFDs in a simple, easy-to-understand way. The fact sheet provides a basic overview of VFD technology, adding to the wealth of motor system management tools and resources made available by MDM. Motor system management is about more than motors, and resources like the VFD fact sheet provide customers with the information they need to take their savings to the next level. Please feel free to redistribute the fact sheet to your customers, and let us know how it works out.

About CEE
CEE is an award-winning consortium of efficiency program administrators from the United States and Canada. Members work to unify program approaches across jurisdictions to increase the success of efficiency in markets. By joining forces at CEE, individual electric and gas efficiency programs are able to partner not only with each other, but also with other industries, trade associations, and government agencies. Working together, administrators leverage the effect of their ratepayer funding, exchange information on successful practices and, by doing so, achieve greater energy efficiency for the public good.
