CEE's industrial programs include three initiatives (premium-efficiency motors, motor systems and transformers) as well as supporting activities like Motor Decisions Matter and the Compressed Air Challenge. These programs promote energy efficiency in the industrial marketplace by working with CEE utility members, whose customers include thousands of industrial plants nationwide. CEE also works closely with manufacturers of industrial equipment, such as motors and transformers, to encourage greater availability of products meeting CEE's energy-efficiency guidelines.

For detailed information about the programs described below, click on the program title.

Administrators of energy-efficiency programs should be aware of DOE tools and resources that target energy-efficiency opportunities in the industrial sector. Many CEE members have incorporated DOE-developed software tools, such as MotorMaster+, AirMaster, PSAT (for pumps), and related training opportunities into their industrial programs. Information on how to access these materials is provided below.

Administrators looking for assistance with energy-related plant technologies at the state and regional level may now consult National Inventory of Manufacturing Assistance Programs database (NIMAP). This database was created by the Alliance to Save Energy, a CEE member, for the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Industrial Technologies. NIMAP provides a state-by-state listing of programs that provide plant assessments, rebates, financing, consulting, diagnostic tools, and other assistance to manufacturers.

Another good resource is the DOE's BestPractices Web site.

A tremendous opportunity for energy savings exists by addressing the efficiency of the entire motor system as well as the the motor itself. For that reason, CEE's Motors/Motor Systems Initiatives establishes premium-efficiency specifications for motors and develops programs for motor-system efficiency.

CEE is researching the energy-efficiency potential of the water and wastewater industry. This section includes links, reports and other resources that provide information about this sector.

Motor Decisions MatterSM promotes system efficiency by encouraging industrial and commercial customers to evaluate their motor repair and replacement options and to develop a motor management plan before motors fail.

CEE and ENERGY STAR® have adopted the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) TP-1 standard, which reduces transformer losses by 50 percent. By promoting these levels, the initiative contributes to increased product availability and subsequent sales of high-efficiency, low-voltage distribution transformers.

CEE is a founding member of the Compressed Air Challenge, a voluntary collaboration of organizations that promote more efficient usage of industrial compressed air.
