CEE members coming from the east coast escaped a snowstorm to land in sunny Long Beach, California, and join their peers from the rest of the United States and Canada for two days of hard, but exciting work on January 16 and 17.
Representatives from forty-eight organizations attended general information sessions covering topics from The Growing North American Energy Efficiency Industry, presented by Monica Nevius from CEE, to presentations by EPA employees Sam Rashkin (Whole House) and Ted Leopkey (Quality Installation). Among the many fascinating presentations, renewables came up for discussion with a presentation by Chip Fox of member San Diego Gas & Electric, and David Hewitt of the New Buildings Institute who presented information about commercial building codes and efficiency.
Audience members were asked to raise their hands in response to various questions. Overall, nearly half were first time attendees, or were new to energy efficiency programs.
Members also worked together at breakout sessions to address specific issues such as pursuing major industrial opportunities through planning, multiple topics in consumer electronics, and improving evaluation techniques. Large opportunities exist both in gas programs as they ramp up and in improving efficiency of data centers and servers.
Comments on evaluation forms reported again and again that the candid discussions and work accomplished in the breakout sessions on specific topics were worthwhile. Another favorite was seeing the presentation Monica Nevius made on the industry overview. We appreciate the effort members took to fill out the evaluation form; the winner of the door prize was Louis Rizzo from National Grid. Congratulations, Louis!
