2008 Efficiency Program Budgets Reach $4.5 Billion

CEE Reports on Budget and Impacts for Fourth Year

This year’s Annual Industry Report on the 2008 efficiency program industry demonstrates that while programs have seen double-digit budget growth, expectations are also higher. The efficiency program industry is looking to new methods to reach for the higher fruit through initiative development and program explorations at CEE.

U.S. programs reached $ 3.7 billion, an 18 percent increase over 2007. Canada adds another $768 million, bringing the total to $4.5 billion. Budgets are broken down by commercial and industrial, residential, low income, and load management programs.

The impact data show that CEE members’ efficiency programs saved Canadian and U.S. ratepayers an astounding $6 billion in 2007. That figure is based on reported energy savings of 68,300 GWh of electricity and 208 million therms of gas. Thus, efficiency programs abated more than 41 million metric tons of CO2, an increase of 5 million tons over 2006 savings.

The CEE report is available in two formats. You can request a printed Annual Industry Report from CEE, or after October 31, you can visit the Web site for details by state and province and by sector.
