Since last meeting, CEE Board members have made decisions to revise the residential HVAC tier 1 specification.
To address the ENERGY STAR increase in performance requirements for central air conditioners and air source heat pumps occurring in January 2009, the CEE Board of Directors revised the CEE Tier 1 specification upwards.
EPA scheduled this increase—which only applies to the SEER and EER requirements of split systems—in 2006 as an ENERGY STAR Tier 2. This revision aligns the SEER and EER requirements for CEE and ENERGY STAR, and ensures the CEE specification continues to recognize superior energy efficiency performance.
CEE’s higher tiers are not affected.
This increase also allows the CEE HVAC Equipment Directory to continue to serve as the qualified product list for ENERGY STAR.
