EPA has released their analysis of data CEE collects in National Awareness of ENERGY STAR® for 2008: Analysis of 2008 CEE Household Survey. The survey is available online.
About the ENERGY STAR Survey
The ENERY STAR Survey, which collects data on consumer recognition, understanding, and purchasing influence of the ENERGY STAR label, provides critical evidence about the effectiveness of expenditures in support of ENERGY STAR on a national level. Additionally, CEE members can supplement the survey to assess ENERGY STAR awareness in their own service areas.

- Seventy-three percent of households that recognized the label had purchased an ENERGY STAR labeled product within the last twelve months.
At the publicity area level:
- Eighty percent of respondents in high publicity areas recognize the label, versus seventy percent in low publicity areas.
- Sixty-eight percent of households in high publicity areas associated the ENERGY STAR label with “efficiency or energy savings,” compared with 55 percent of households in low publicity areas.
