ENERGY STAR® Awards go to
18 CEE Members

Washington, DC, March 18, 2010—Eighteen CEE member organizations were singled out for their outstanding efforts in reducing greenhouse gas emissions through energy efficiency at the eighteenth Annual ENERGY STAR® Awards Banquet.

Lisa Jackson, Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, summed it all up when she said, “ENERGY STAR is a shining example of what we can accomplish when we come together.”  Other speakers and officials at the ceremony included Cathy Zoi, Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, U.S. Department of Energy; Gina McCarthy, Assistant Administrator of the EPA; and Jerry Abramson, Mayor of the City of Louisville.

 

This year, ENERGY STAR Awards for Sustained Excellence were given to Arizona Public Service, Austin Energy, CenterPoint Energy, Energy Trust of Oregon, National Grid, NYSERDA, NEEA, Oncor, Pacific Gas and Electric Company, Rocky Mountain Power, Southern California Edison Company, the sponsors of the Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships (NEEP), and Wisconsin Focus on Energy. 

 
Questar Gas Company of Salt Lake City was one of the winners of the2010 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year award.  The ENERGY STAR Partners of the Year award acknowledges an organization’s successful management of energy use and promotion of ENERGY STAR products to their community.
 

ComEd of Illinois and Southern California Gas Company of Los Angeles were the two CEE members cited for “Excellence in ENERGY STAR Promotion.”  Plus, the recipients of ENERGY STAR Special Recognition were the Omaha Public Power District, and PECO of Pennsylvania.

Gina McCarthy, EPA assistant administrator, offered words of appreciation to all the winners, “Thank you to all you ENERGY STAR overachievers … thank you for providing our consumers with tremendous choice for delivering ENERGY STAR products and services.  Thank you for your commitment, enthusiasm, and innovation.”  Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson added this comment, “This is not a sprint, it’s a marathon.  It’s not an initiative, it’s a movement.”   

Congratulations to all the CEE award winners who are part of this growing movement!

The event was part of the 2010 National Symposium on Market Transformation, co-sponsored by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy and CEE, the Consortium for Energy Efficiency.
