Contact: Howard Newman, CEE Communications Director
On Dec. 15, 2005, the CEE Board of Directors approved the adoption of a Commercial Kitchens Initiative. It will become effective Jan. 1, 2006. The purpose of this initiative is to provide clear, consistent and credible definitions for a set of high performance commercial kitchen equipment that members can deliver as a "package" (or individually) to targeted food service market sectors. The initiative is designed to capture the value of national consistency in the definition of energy- and water-efficient products through voluntary specifications (and/or application guides) and to create focus in key market sectors through use of program design strategy templates. CEE's Commercial Kitchens Initiative is an outgrowth of its previous initiatives for commercial refrigeration. Based upon members' program experience, initiative participants agreed that program effectiveness can be increased by developing an initiative that would address a suite of offerings relevant to the food service sector, thereby creating a commercial kitchens focus. Due to the significance of the added water savings achievable in the food service market and the intent by members to provide jointly sponsored programs, committee participation and initiative participation have been expanded to include sponsoring water agencies.
Market Strategy Outreach efforts to the restaurants sector will include:
The committee evaluated key technologies for initial national coordination as they relate to a sector within the food service market, initially restaurants. Based on research by the Technology Assessment subcommittee, CEE has developed the following:
fryers 2) Revised specification for commercial ice cube machines 3) Application guidelines for pre-rinse spray valves Also available are CEE's high-efficiency specifications for: Combining these efforts with CEE's current specifications on commercial refrigerators and freezers provides a compelling package of water- and energy- saving measures for member programs. CEE staff will maintain a list of equipment provided by manufacturers indicating compliance for these specifications. |
